Dawn Chorus is a project that harmoniously blends conservation, science, and art to foster a unique connection between people and nature. Embracing the ethos "Stop and Listen," individuals across the globe dedicate moments in the morning to immerse themselves in the melodic symphony of avian voices wherever they may be. Through recording and uploading these serene dawn choruses to a global database, participants contribute valuable data that serves both artistic and scientific endeavors, offering profound insights into biodiversity preservation.

The Dawn Chorus app provides users with a convenient platform for swiftly capturing these captivating recordings. Beyond its recording functionality, users can delve deeper into the realm of bird songs while exploring their creative instincts. The inclusion of the "Sonic Feather" media art feature presents an opportunity for users to transform their recordings into compelling works of art.

Respecting user privacy, the app ensures that all data is utilized anonymously and solely for scientific and artistic pursuits. Furthermore, it offers offline capabilities, enabling data storage on the device for subsequent uploads.

Introduced in 2020, Dawn Chorus emerged as a collaborative citizen science and arts initiative by BIOTOPIA – Naturkundemuseum Bayern (Munich) and Stiftung Kunst und Natur (Nantesbuch), in association with the Max Planck Society. As of 2022, LBV (Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz in Bayern/ Bavarian Association for the Protection of Birds and Nature) has assumed the role of project partner, succeeding Stiftung Kunst und Natur.
